Stevie Wonder week in American Idol!!paksyet!

The 12 finalists were truly put to the test as they sang some of this legend's hits,and it's like a baptism of fire on their 1st finals episode. For one thing, it's like Stevie Wonder composed and sang his songs in a supernatural manner that no other singer can sing them. But I have to say this is one of the best episodes of AI that I've seen.

I was "booger-green" with envy as I saw the contestants sing songs and rehearse with Stevie..Kung ako siguro nandun, hindi lang iyak ang gagawin ko (as what some of the finalists did). Sobrang astig yung moment na yun. haaay...

Anyway, I think they all did good with their renditions of his songs. Particularly loved Mandisa's, Katharine's and Taylor's. I was looking forward though for someone to sing "Ribbon in the Sky"..sana 'kano ako at kasing husay ko yung mga mokong na yun,that would be my piece. hehe :p

Yesterday was the elimination, and Melissa Mcghee got the boot..No surprise there though.

The true American Idol for me would be somebody sight-impaired, signed by Motown at an unbelievable age of ten, produced hits that would take you hours to listen to all of them, inspire and influence millions of musicians all over the world and still have an audience of hundreds in awe decades after he was discovered..nag-iisang lang yan..IDOL!!

One thing that I find difficult is organizing my thoughts and putting them down on print, or for this matter, the screen. I can really never tell what to write about in this blog, maybe if I was busy enough to tell heaps of stories..but then again if would be that,maybe i wouldn't have time to blog..ahh letse. hehe

anyway, news...

* Jose "Sway" Penala was booted out of the American Idol semis. Due to a rather mediocre performance of the S.Wonder classic "Overjoyed", the American public deemed him not fit for the final 12..Sayang, he is actually a great vocalist but maybe he was just feeling under the weather when he sang that night..Honestly, kahit ako na-dissappoint sa performance nya. Will be rooting for Katharine Mcphee, Paris,Taylor & Elliot instead.

*ABS CBN is in deep s**t ( regarding the Ultra incident) , 'nuff said

*My sister has joined the choir I was previously involved with ( I still am,though not as a singer). Masaya naman siya :p

*I am still boycotting the news..unless it's not about the opposition's endless attempts of power overthrow

*Zayteenya is going to be my plane, as Olympus is to Zeus hehe

I have no intention of watching the news, specially with this all over it..

Edsa and Mendiola are getting to be the most popular scapegoats of Filipinos nowadays. I don't know..pasensya na a..but I just don't agree with all the demonstration and rallying going on. So we are planning to topple the Arroyo administration this time? Because apparently she's not the dainty little ex-vice president that she was.."Kasi ganito..kasi ganyan.."

It's beginning to look like Filipinos are a bunch of whiners, we stage a huge protest and take the streets ( AND cause horrendous traffic) whenever things don't go our way. Like a 5 year old kid making a scene inside the crowded mall because Nanay wouldn't buy him the things he wanted. Sure GMA isn't the perfect person for the job, but who is? Susan Roces? I'm pretty sure the opposition is doing everything in it's power to make this one successful, rounding up every tambay at every corner and "urging" them to congregate to make their movement convincing..hay I really don't want to go into all this crap. Though I am a firm believer of democracy and freedom of speech, etc. ,but it really is getting out of hand.

Another Fil-Am has made it to the American Idol semis

Jose "Sway" Penala , born to Filipino parents, is one of the top 24 qualifiers of the most frenzied talent search in the US. I did'nt really get to see his audition clips in the qualifying rounds but I bet he has an awesome talent. A former member of the group "Drop'n Harmony", i believe he was just recently here with his new group 6th day. He's a shoo-in for the top 12, i'm sure. With the whole Filipino community all over America voting for him, we will surely catch him at the finals.. Ano kaya kung kumanta sya ng tagalog song? "Pinoy ako" by Bamboo? hehehe

....Local chanteusse Carol Banawa also auditioned for this season, though unfortunately failed to make the cut.It's such a shame because Carol's voice would have been breath of fresh air amidst all the screamers and rifters we'd be hearing from the coming episodes.

I am also looking forward to watching the performances of these two:

17 year old Paris Benett has this precocious tone to her voice, and her musicality is just unbelievable..

This girl is what I would refer to as "halimaw" when it comes to singing

Taylor Hicks on the other hand, I find weird..but not in a bad way though. Obviuosly he's a deadringer for Jay Leno because of his bounty of grey hair, but the guy sings like Joe Cocker..and spasms like Ray Charles when belting out..hehe weird.. but astig.

So who's going to be the next American Idol?...

"Ordinary People" was the first song I heard from Legend. Read somewhere that he supposedly wrote the song for Black Eyed Peas ( with Will I.Am i think ) but maybe later realized that it was a pretty damn good song not to perform himself. True enough, it was the single that formally launched him as a solo artist to the public..and we marveled at his amazing musicality and artistry.

I can't really put my finger on his genre..it's a bizzare juxtaposition of soul, r&b , hip hop even.. and significant touches of jazz. He was known before more of as a collaborator alongside the American music scene's big names. Legend composed , done back ups , played the piano for such hits like "Family Business" ( Jay-Z) , "If I ain't got you" (Alicia Keys) , "I Want You" (Janet Jackson)..just to name a few. He's worked with the best of them, about time he took the mic for himself.

...anyway, my next visit to tower records would have his "Get Lifted" album as BUY #1. I'm feeling a tad guilt already from ripping his music from limewire :p
